What? Popelini in Paris
Why? While macarons are still very popular in Paris, it seems that they have some serious competition from choux à la crème. These little cream puffs are elegant bite-size treats, almost like a round éclair. At Popelini, these puffs mean serious business, because this entire store is devoted to choux. You can choose from a variety of flavors and fillings, all made with fine ingredients like Madagascar vanilla or orange blossom.
Must-try? I suggest buying a variety of flavors, so you can try as many as possible. My absolute favorite was the coffee choux (crispy pastry, lovely sweet coffee glaze and a luscious mocha filling), but the salted caramel was a very close second.
