What? Hotel de Goudfazant in Amsterdam

Why? While its name might fool you, de Goudfazant in Amsterdam Noord is not a hotel but a restaurant. A highly recommended restaurant, that is. This place is a well-known local favorite and pretty much a guarantee for a great evening out. The old shed provides an industrial atmosphere that feels surprisingly warm at the same time. The service is excellent, the prices affordable (around 31 EUR for a 3 course meal) and the food impressive. The dishes are classic French inspired, but always with a lighter modern touch.
I enjoyed a tender artichoke with creamy basil mayonnaise, perfectly cooked cod with crayfish and salty sapphire, and the most wonderful meringue with lemon curd and crispy pastry.

Must-try? The menu changes often, but you can never go wrong with the rotisserie poussin and the ‘hemelse modder’ chocolate dessert.
