What? Hotel Vesper in Noordwijk, the Netherlands

Why? The recently opened Vesper is the first boutique hotel on the Dutch coast. Here they truly understand what difference the little things can make. The hotel has the same cosmopolitan feel as places like Astor (Miami), Mama Shelter (Paris) and the W in Barcelona. The owners also operate nearby upscale beach venues Bries and Zuiderbad and have much international hospitality experience. Their know-how is definitely notable in Vesper, where everything is done right.

Take the gorgeous design of Bart Akkerhuis for instance, or the modern terrace that feels as if it’s located on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive (minus the eccentric passers-by, that is). But what struck me most was the attention for details. The warm welcome with a drink on the terrace, instead of a hurried check-in. The fact that you sleep under Egyptian cotton and can make yourself a cup of Illy espresso in the morning. Or how you can have breakfast until noon every day. Those are the things that truly make you feel welcome and can turn a hotel stay into an experience. Even the name is carefully chosen: Vesper was the only woman James Bond ever loved, but also is a cocktail and the moment the sun sets.

Must-order? Breakfast is included and offers a pleasant mix of green juices, fresh bread and homemade pastries. I haven’t tried the lunch or evening menu (yet!), but I have to say those bites definitely looked very promising.
