I am always on the lookout for restaurants, cafés or hotels that do things slightly different. Where the focus lies on the tiniest details and where you can truly experience something special. Boutique hotel Mannabay in South Africa’s Cape Town is the perfect place for that.
Located in the Gardens area, close to Table Mountain, you find this gorgeous boutique hotel, with an incredible view over the city of Cape Town.
The hotel offers eight suites, that all have their own theme, which is visible in every small detail. Take for example the flamingo suite, with a bubble bath and flamingo wallpaper. Or the Persian suite, where I stayed, with a life-sized Persian prince on the wall, matching wallpaper and even a bookcase with color-coordinated books in the same golden color scheme. All rooms have a terrace or balcony, which offers you a lot of privacy and because of the large flat screens (and iPads), it’s easy to entertain yourself inside as well.
There are also many common rooms for you to use, all decorated differently. From a tropical conservatory with lots of flowers and botanical prints to a modern lounge couch with black and white wallpaper, but also a gym and large swimming pool outside. There is modern art everywhere, as well as many books (you can switch books or take one in turn for a donation to a local charity) and many jars of candy or freshly baked cookies.
Food in general plays a big role in this hotel, because there’s an in-house chef who makes sure you’re being taken care of. From an extensive breakfast buffet and a just as extensive breakfast menu (perfect eggs benedict!) to the homemade popsicles (‘pineapple with a touch of rum’) to the daily high tea with all kinds of cake, savory pies and very addictive cordial. It’s pretty easy to fill up until dinner, which does require a drive to the city centre. Or well, the complimentary chauffeur will be driving and you just get in the car. Easy does it.
Mannabay is a wonderful quiet place to relax, but also a good base to discover Cape Town from. To me, it shows where a true boutique hotel stands for: personal service, luxury in small details and original extras. A place I definitely want to return to!
