I am always on the lookout for restaurants, cafés or hotels that do things slightly different. Where the focus lies on the tiniest details and where you can truly experience something special. I recently stayed at Sea Star Rocks in Camps Bay (Cape Town, South Africa) and I can highly recommend it.
This small and intimate boutique hotel is located on top of a mountain and although you have to ignore the steep winding roads that lead you there (or maybe it’s just me overreacting, totally possible), it makes for an incredibly beautiful view on top.
Sea Star Rocks has only been running for a year and was originally a private mansion that has been transformed into this hotel. Two hotel rooms face the infinity pool and the third suite has its own plunge pool, to cool off during those hot summer days. And when I say rooms, I actually mean “little homes”, because that is how the suites felt to me. There is so much quietness and privacy here and it’s truly amazing to wake up with such a stunning view.
Breakfast is served in the living room and consists of an extensive buffet with lots of good bread and pretzels (the fact that the owner is German, must have something to do with that!), but there is also a menu with dishes on order (make sure to order the pancakes, which is more of a thin crepe: amazing!). In the same room, you can find lots of wines and a ‘honest bar’, where you can pour yourself a drink and write it down afterwards.
In the evening, an Uber will get you to Camps Bay in no time, for example when you want to enjoy the best sushi ever, but even Cape Town city centre is only minutes away.
Whoever is looking for the intimacy and great personal service of a boutique hotel and at the same time prefers a bit of privacy, will fall in love with Sea Star Rocks. I definitely didn’t want to leave after my two-night stay and hope to come back someday.
